The UCF Research and Mentoring Program provides an enriching educational experience for students from underrepresented groups and first generation/low income students, to excel as undergraduates, succeed in graduate school and ultimately enter faculty positions in our nation’s colleges and universities.

Program Benefits

  • Assistance in locating and applying to graduate schools
  • Workshops on the graduate school application process, financial aid, scholarships and fellowships

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full time UCF student
  • Rising-junior class status - minimum 60 credit hours completed with four semesters left before graduation (summer terms not included)
  • Preference given to student applicants meeting the following criteria:
    1. Racial or ethnic minority status with unmet financial need in excess of $3,600
    2. First generation college student
    3. Student underrepresented in graduate education
  • Interest in research opportunities
  • Identification of faculty researcher by student applicant
  • Overall GPA of 3.0
  • Availability of faculty researcher interested in working with student applicant
    (Mentors are only allowed to work with one new student in 1st year of program)

Student Responsibilities

To qualify, you:

  • Commit a maximum of 20 hours a week for 30 weeks to this program at a pay rate of $8 per hour (maximum award of $1400 per semester)
  • Attend all activities and workshops designed for the RAMP program
  • Submit a written research report at the end of the year’s activity
  • Accept mentoring by the assigned faculty member
  • Complete all program evaluation instruments
