What is the RAMP?
The UCF Research and Mentoring Program (RAMP) is designed to provide undergraduate students, who may be interested in pursuing graduate education, with research experience while working closely with a faculty mentor.
Who is eligible for RAMP?
Rising-junior class status - minimum 60 credit hours completed with four semesters left before graduation Preference given to student applicants meeting the following criteria:
- Racial or ethnic minority status with unmet financial need in excess of $3,600
- First generation college student
- Student underrepresented in graduate education
- Interest in research opportunities
- Identification of faculty researcher by student applicant
- Overall GPA of 3.0
- Availability of faculty researcher interested in working with student applicant
Are there any financial advantages to RAMP?
- Yes, scholars are eligible to receive up to $2800 per academic year for their work.
How can I apply?
- Please go to our application page and submit an online application.
- Finally, you will need to submit supplementary materials to the RAMP office – Computer Center II, Room 221.
Does the program assist scholars with graduate school preperation?
- Yes. Scholars receive:
- Individualized academic and personal support from RAMP staff
- Involvement in a cohesive community of scholars and educators
- Experience conducting research
- Faculty, graduate student, and peer mentoring
- Opportunities to participate in the Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence
- Assistance in locating and applying to graduate schools
- Workshops on the graduate school application process, financial aid, scholarships and fellowships
What is the time commitment for each scholar?
- Scholars should expect to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week. The time commitment will depend on your mentor and his/her research project.
Do I have to have a faculty mentor to apply?
- Yes. Availability of a faculty mentor is required in order to apply to the program.
